Violations of the law, at either the city, county, state, or federal level, can result in arrest, fines, community service hours, and jail time.  Criminal defense attorneys work with their clients to insure that their participation in the system is fair and unbiased, and that they get every advantage available to them.

Driving drunk in San Antonio and Bexar County can result in severe consequences to someone pulled over for suspected drunk driving.  In 2008, a focused effort in the prosecution and conviction of drunk drivers was instituted by District Attorney Susan Reed for the Bexar County area.

CRIMINAL DEFENSE  & DWI

The State of Texas, through its Department of Family & Protective Services, Child Protective Services Division, has the legal right to take children from parents if certain criteria are met, and to have their parent-child relationship legally terminated if the State proves certain facts exist.  Both parents as well as the child legally must have legal counsel during these proceedings.

Sometimes, foster parents, grandparents, or other kin may want to intervene in a CPS case to have the children taken by CPS placed in their home on a temporary or permanent basis.  They have no legal right to counsel, but must retain their own CPS Attorney to represent them.

CPS Child Abuse Attorney Jean G. Jennings has years of experience representing children, parents, grandparents, kinfolk, and foster parents in CPS matters before the Bexar County Children’s Court.

CPS—CHILD ABUSE AND NEGLECT

PERSONAL INJURY

Animal law involves not only protecting pets, but dealing with the humane treatment of strays, the proper and safe placement of adoptions and rescues, and how best to deal legally with animal testing and animals used for profit, such as those being used in gambling pursuits (cockfighting, dog fighting) throughout South Texas.

Dogs and cats have become a part of the American family in today’s society; however, the law still sees pets as property, legally inhibiting the ability to effectively deal with vet malpractice as well as complicating the legal protections of pets through estate planning.  Dogs, in particular, need special legal protections since part of their value to the family is their territorial behaviors, where they protect home and hearth, and yet dog bite legislation institutes strict liability against the dog owner.

People get hurt every day, and sometimes, those injuries are life-altering for the individual and their loved ones.  Car crashes, motorcycle accidents, slip and falls, as well as defective products and errors by health care providers can all result in claims that can be asserted in a court of law to insure that the victim and his family are properly compensated for their damages.

Insurance companies, working through claims adjusters, seek to settle claims quickly and efficiently, avoiding filed lawsuits or full trials whenever possible.   Sometimes, there may be a number of insurance policies involved in one incident.

Having an experienced personal injury attorney to represent the victim’s interests can be critical, including negotiating with insurance companies.
